Scott Simmerman, Ph.D. has been a Managing Partner of Performance Management Company since 1984. He is experienced in designing games for team building as well as developing tools for organization with the themes of engagement and change. Simmerman wrote Teaching the Caterpillar to Fly in 2000 to illustrate the theme of improving perspective and decreasing one's resistant to change. The poem is part of a toolkit sold by Performance Management Company to coaches, mentors, and parents wanting to facilitate change in people.
Simmerman was born in New Jersey in 1948, earned his Bachelor's Degree from Allegheny College, received his Master's in Psychology from Iowa State University, and his doctorate in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Simmerman taught psychology at Furman University and UNC, Chapel Hill when he grew bored of the classroom and decided to pursue performance improvement consulting in 1978.
In 1984, Simmerman created Performance Management Company in Greenville, South Carolina. The business grew in popularity after the creation of his Square Wheels One illustrations and Search for The Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine team simulation. PMC and Square Wheels have been used in over 30 countries for workshops, retreats, and seminars.
When he is not traveling the world giving keynote speeches, Simmerman enjoys gardening, reading, playing pool, and bike riding.
